Why have my Anoles lost their appetites?

Vel Mar 13, 2004 09:03 PM

I have an aquarium sectioned off into 2 sides. On one side, is a single male, and on the other, a male and female.

out of nowhere, their appetites really slowed down. I remember they would eat as many crickets as I could feed them at a time practically, now the ones I put in there from the day before are still alive. I don't get it. i thought it may have been because the UV bulb was wearing out, so i replaced it and nothing has changed.

One thing i DID do however was begin to fortify their water with that stuff that gets out all the bad chemicals. I had been supplying their water with Aquafina, a family member would buy cases and I'd sneak one every now and then. Other than that, that's the only thing I could think of that's changed.

I would stop the water treatment. Just use purified tap water or if you do not have that then bottled water and you will be fine. I do not recommend tap water that is not purified.

Try this link on the fussy eating part.

These are good practices in general. Something to keep in mind...
Just because they are not eating as much as you think they should, it is not necessarily a problem. As long as they eat something everyday then they will be fine. They will eat as much or as little as THEY want. If they look healthy and happy then your doing fine. If they start looking unhealthy then it is time to get a vet visit with a fecal exam.
