reptileman26 Mar 14, 2004 12:12 AM

I have a 55 gallon glass aqaurium setup with a cave , drift wood, fake vines, fake plants ,large water dish, rocks, and I use Zoo Med Eco Earth (cocanut fiber) as my substrate is this suitable for a pair of leopard geckos?I would post a pic but I dont know how.

P.S. Im putting a small waterfall in the tank is this ok for the geckos?

If you want to keep the male with the female...it would be best to get multiple females, having at least 3 females to a male is probably best. A 55 would definitely be fine for 4 leos...assuming there are enough hides (which probably means at least 2 humid hides incase someone is greedy...lol). As far as the waterfall...its probably not a good idea. The constant high humidity it would create in the tank could cause health issues. As far as posting pics, go to www.photobucket.com, its free, create a membership and upload some pics to there. Once the pics are uploaded they have three little spaces below your pics, just copy the contents of the space that says image and paste it directly into the message space when you're typing a message on kingsnake. You don't have to do anything else to it, just paste it in and you should be good. Hope this is helpful!

Most of that sounds ok...so long as you make sure there are plenty of hiding spaces for them. You might want to use a different substrate though...I would recommend tiles, they hold heat very well (which is another thing you need to consider, I'd recommend getting an under tank heater), are easy to clean, and if you get vinyl can be cut easily so they fit the tank.

I too would recommend slate/tiles for your substrate. I have used the coconut bedding once before, without problems in a large tank. I found it hard to spot clean, and the feeder insects tend to hide in the substrate. I personally like the look of slate, and it’s comforting to know they can’t ingest it. Here are a few pictures of my slate tanks:

may keep an eye on the substrate to be sure its not eaten, but besides that it sounds great!
