Need help on import/export laws regarding reptiles

jrbl Mar 14, 2004 01:36 AM

Hi,
I saw a post in the kingsnake classifieds about CB Monkey Tail Skinks (Corucia zebrata), in Thailand. They will only ship within Asia, and I live in the United States. I have family in Taiwan and the breeder of the skinks said "...they are legal to be exported with the paperwork. If you can get permits in Taiwan, we would gladly send them over...". What type of permits would I, or my family in Taiwan have to get to import the skinks? After they are in Taiwan, how would I get they to here? Just a note: I am probably not going to attempt this, but I want to explore it as an option to acquire these animals. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, jrbl

You will have to follow the entire Importation process in order to import them. It is not financially feasable unless you are bringing in a large number of them. Here is a quick breakdown of prices and things to import. USF&W import License $50, CITES documents $100, USF&W inspection $55-$115, US Customs Clearance $25, Broker $150 /-, Freight with Airlines (Usually minimum of $300-$400.
