LizardLuva Mar 14, 2004 08:37 AM

Ok, im still debating over what to get... here are my requirements....

1. Not over 5 ft maximum
2. Probably under $60 for the lizard at an expo, might go higher if needed.
3. OK enclosure size 4'X5' ground space maximum, might be able to go a little bit bigger.
4. Diet- could it be- Insects(Crickets, Roaches), Something like the SDZ diet, pre-prepared diets, vegtables, (NO RODENTS!)
5. Thats about it, o, it needs to be able to be handled.

Thanks! could you also post about lighting, heat and substrate

Don't ask me why, but these are lizards i cannot or willnot get:
Bearded Dragons
Leopard Geckos
Crested Geckos
Day Geckos
Pictus Geckos
Monitors(Except Sav)
Colombian Tegus
Iguanas

Possiblilities, (in my mind):
Savanna Monitor
B W Tegu
Water Dragon
Vieled Chameleon

Hi, just popped in to say uromastyx are very cool !

And Blue Tonugue skinks are very nice also if ya handle them regularly !

Let us know what ya decide on, then we can help you with care requirements !

Best thing to do for now, is decide, THEN do some research, see if it's the right lizard for you !

Then come back and ask TONS of questions, hahhahaha !

Good Luck on your mission !

If I had a cage that size and didn't want to feed rodents... I'd get water dragons. I mean, that's literally what I myself would do. I'd be sure to have roaches for something that size though!

I fed my adult male water dragon primarily rodents, with a few earthworms and hissing roaches for variety, in addition to his occasional plant foods (he really wasn't big on veggies, some of them aren't). He did extraordinarily well on that diet.

Your experience level would be a big issue, too. Do you realize how big savannah monitors get?

From your list

Possiblilities, (in my mind):
Savanna Monitor Of all the monitors that you could choose as a pet, this would be dead last.
B W Tegu This would be my choice
Water Dragon Wouldn't be my top choice.
Vieled Chameleon Awesome display animal, not a pet that can be handled.

Uromastyx are an excellent choice. Blue Tongue Skinks are also wonderful. What about a frilled dragon?
