Having a big problem with Crickets

fadetolemons Mar 14, 2004 08:39 AM

Alright, as you guys might know from my past couple of posts, i just got some leos yesterday and have 3 of them (babies) in a 20 gal tank. I had them on sand, which i knew was risky, but after reading up more and talking to some people i found out that i should NEVER have babies on sand, and for the most part the same w/ adults. So i spent a long time last night cleaning out the cage, cracking part of it in the process, etc, and put paper towels down for them. So this morning i go and drop 4 or 5 crickets in so my guys (btw their names are Stamps, Treble and Wedge) and the crickets would run and get into the seams of the paper towels and crawl under, so not only can they not be eaten, but i can't find them and they'll probably just die under there. It's not a huge problem but if i'm not constantly watching they may all just crawl under and i'll think they've been eaten, because i can't lift the entire cage up (i have some heavy stuff in there.) anyone know a solution to this problem?

Well, one solution to the crickets going under the paper towel is, to get some scotch tape, tape the part where the pieces of paper towel meet, and to the cage, that should do the trick it's not to hard, maybe it will work. So I hope I could help if you have any problems or questions just feel free to ask. (anything you need).Thank you

Yeah i guess that will work, I was just a little worried about that hurting the geckos, especially since they're so young, but i think it should work, at least around the edges.

if you can't fix that problem try feeding mealworms. But feed crickets if you can because they are more nutritional.

I have a 20L tank and what I found to work great is to cut the papertowel to the size of the tank. Then you can also put the humid hides or water bowels....etc around the corner parts or the parts you know will stick up due to the seperation of the towels and that covers up any way the crix can get in. Thats what I do and it works great.

Hope that helps.
