a 10 gallon is a perfect tank for a single leo for its whole life. Although if you wish to have it in a larger tank that is fine also, i wouldn't keep leos in a tank any longer than 30 inches though.

Just curious as to why you wouldn't keep a leo in a tank larger than 30"??? Are you referring to babies only or even adults? My two adult males are in 20 gal long tanks measuring 12x12x30 but my group of five girls are in a 40 gal (36"long) and i plan on putting two females together in another 40 gal (Flame and Karma) while Bell and Bubbles will either be moved to the 15 gal or get 20 gal long tanks of their own. The 20 gallon seem almost to small for Boo my oldest male and i'm thinking of moving him to my 22 gal which is 36" long. I think larger is better especially when they are adults. Babies are best in smaller enclosures just so that they can find everything. Don't get me wrong, 10 gallons are fine too and i'll be building a rack with the top shelves for babies and then larger bins for as they mature due to space constrictions.

Thanks

the reason why i said that is unless you are making a tank with lots of water, calcium, and food dishes if you kept a leo with a single water dish in a large tank you would make it move out of its preferred temp zone. If you are making a tank with lots of water, calcium, and food dishes it doesn't matter.

Its true that keeping a hatchling in a large enclosure will make it difficult for them to find food and water but as for sub-adults or adults i see no reason that a 40 gal tank is anything but good. I would hope that if they prefer the warm area of the tank that they would move out of it to poop and to have food and water located on or near the heated side only cooks the food (i use mealworms) and evaporate the water faster. None of my 11 leos have had any difficulty finding their food and water with it being on the opposite side of the tank away from the heat. Plus all of my geckos move out of the warm area to explore at night.
