Is this normal?

fadetolemons Mar 14, 2004 02:25 PM

My leos, who are really young, always entangle themselves w/ one another and climb on top of each other. I know this couldn't be a bad thing but i was wondering if it was normal or not.

seperate the leos. The larger ones are dominating the smaller ones, so the smaller ones are going through lots of stress may not be eating well and may not be getting enough water.

Really??? I can't separate them, i only have one cage that i've spent a lot of money on. They aren't like that all the time, just when they get in this one log structure, one will be lying on top of one of the others sometime. How serious is this?

try to put more hides in the cage. See if the geckos will seperate then. It shouldn't be to bad but it may be a sign of domination.

it's serious at all. If you got these leos from the pet store, they were probably all piled in together and they feel safe and secure lying on top of each other. The only thing you need to watch for is when they are moving about the tank at feeding time. As long as both are eating you are in good shape. I know I keep my leos 0.4 in a 20L... and they sometimes all pile into the same hide. At 50 grams apiece, there have to be some parts laying on top of other parts. I also know that Rick at Geckoland USA keeps his leos in similar situations. If my memory serves me right he said he keeps 0.4 leos in a 13 x 13 enclosure... I'm sure they pile together too. They are social creatures.. if they are similar to the same size I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Yeah, they are all the same size and were together at the store i got them at. That's why i bought 3 actually- they were all in there together. Hopefully it won't be a problem, but i'll keep an eye on them. I reallly can't wait to find out what sex they are, but i think it'll be a month or 3

Ya. I bought 2 babies in early Feb. and I noticed one was getting bigger then the other one so I seperated them. They are getting quite fat, and growing alot. In the past, I've raised babies together in the same cage, and there was one large one, and 2 smaller ones. You will get a dominating gecko, but if you do monitor eating habits etc, and have ample places for them to hide, then you should be ok.

Well I have like 3 or 4 good hides, but they all like to cuddle in together it seems. Right now they've separated, but whenever i come in they are all under the main hide, i guess because it's the darkest one

lilroach56 Mar 14, 2004 03:39 PM

since they are the same size it is perfectly fine. If they were different sizes i'd be worried.

How many hides do you have on the warm side. It could be that you just have 2 loving geckos. I would make another dark hide on the warm side, if you don't have one already. I use shoeboxes and cut them at will to make hides, its cheap and works well.

fadetolemons Mar 14, 2004 03:41 PM

I have on hide that is right on the heated area, one beside that w/ the moist papertowels for shedding, a rock that is in the middle that isn't too big, and a huuge rock on the cool side that could fit like 15 baby geckos under it.

my leos even when given many hides will often all pile up in one hide together. as long as there is no fighting and everyone is eating enough you should be fine.
