Making a Leos Vivarium...

lilroach56 Mar 14, 2004 03:00 PM

Since my mom won't let be get a lizard bigger than my leo until i am 16 (only 2 1/2 years) and can afford to pay for everything. I am going to be making a a vivarium for my leo and BP. My leo vivarium is either going to be a 20L or a custom made 2.5' by 2' by 1.5' (LWH). I need landscaping ideas. Here is my current idea-

Make a landscape out of sterilized clay with hills, caves/overhangs, and flat areas.
have small terra cotta flower pots painted a gray/brown to blend in.
get dried grasses and place those in the cage
have a small "leo lake" for water
and small "mealie holes" for food

my main concern is, is clay a safe substrate for leos?

if you have ideas to improve it i will take suggestions.

If you are going to make custome terrarium I would reccomend the fake rock tutorial, look around the bearded dragon forum for it, don't have the link. It looks very nice....

But to sum it up you use polystrene, cut it up to look how you want it and use tile grout to cover it... It dries in a natural looking desert color...

I don't know much about clay though

ok. I remember the big BD enclosure with all that stuff. Thanks for reminding me.

A bunch of broken slate piled up to make caves. Tile on the bottom, A leopard skull that is made for aquariums. A hammock, a humid hide, and a coconut. O plus the mealworm dish the water dish and the calcium dish.

http://708designs.netfirms.com/customcage/customcage.htm is the fake rock site..i think i may get a 10 gallon and experiment with a foam bottom with a 2:1 ratio of weld bond and sand so bassically itll be hills and stuff with hard rock on it the weldbond hardens like rock and the sand will give it the sand look

WHOAAAA!!! Had to look at your picture a couple of times. I looked like you were housing a cat, a dog, and a couple of leopard geckos in your vivarium
