Gaboon Question

sushiking Jun 11, 2003 02:26 PM

Wow. I just saw a Gaboon for the first time! They are beautiful. Is there any other NON-Venomous snake that has a pattern like that? It looks like a oriental carpet. It would be neat to see a gaboon on a matching oriental carpet. any pics?

Thanks,
SushiKing

Not really that close, but I always thought the most similar non-hot was the blood python, a worthy snake in its own right.

Would you guys say that the blood python is a close one also?

Allow me to expand:

They are short and very girthy. They can weigh a pretty good amount of weight for a short snake.

The sumatran short tail (which is related, but not really a blood python) is also a short and stout type of snake.

They have similar habits to the Gaboon in that they are sit and wait preditors with tremendous amount of strength and power. If I was to get a gaboon like snake, it would definitely be the sumatran short-tail. I have a real liking for them.

There are other types of short tails as well which can be very beautiful. Look into the borneo short tailed python as well. All three of the ones mentioned above (the Blood python, the Borneo short tail, and the sumatran short tail) are similar with differences in mainly only in size and color patterns.

Let me know what you think of the comparison betw. Short tail pythons and Gaboons. Myself, I have always thought of the short tails as the non-venomous version of the gaboon.

cheers. happy hotings! (personally Gaboons are just too much snake for me, by the way).
