I noticed today... (everyone please read)

pspguy Mar 14, 2004 04:24 PM

Today I was having a conversation with a customer in my store, which happened to be a dog breeder. It also just so happened that this lady bred the same breed as my ex-wife, so I asked her a few questions about some issues I knew my ex-wife was having. This lady did pretty much everything she could to avoid answering my questions. I have noticed this sort of "cut throat" mentality in the dog world. It made me think, and really appreciate how lucky those of us that visit the Leopard Gecko forums are for having all these great folks to help us along, and avoid some of the pitfalls they made when starting.

Of course Ron Tremper doesn't come on much, but I have seen him here on occasion. I consider Marcia at Golden Gate, Rick from GeckoLand, Mr. Rob Jenkins (the rough tough army guy that he is), and a host of other very lucrative, successful breeders, and we are lucky to have them share their wisdom and ideas with us on a constant day to day basis. I for one would like all of you to know that you are appreciated... for your opinions, whether we all agree or not, and your openness to accept new friends, sometimes on a daily basis around here.

Kudos to you all, Marcia, Rick, Rob, Crystal and Dusty.. I can't list you all, but you know who you are, and I really don't want to go into an extensive list and leave someone important out.

Thanks for all you do.

There's a lot of dog breeders out there...and I'm sure leo breeders too...that are only in it for the money and don't care what happens to the breed (species), and probably don't even know enough about it to give advice. There are also others who are in it for recognition in the show world, and won't share any of their "secrets" with anyone. I personally find both of those types of breeders to be irresponsible and not respectable. The breeders I think are the responsible, respectable ones are the ones purely in it for the love of the breed (species) and want to improve it. These breeders will give advice to anyone who asks for it. That's one of things I love about this forum, the breeders on here are all the respectable kind. It works the same way for breeding any animals in my opinion...and won't ever buy an animal from a breeder I don't think is in it purely for the love of the breed or species.

i agree with you and...

...years ago, i had a question about leopard geckos, and it was long before i started frequenting this forum...and i didn't know who to ask, and i emailed ron tremper (got his name from the book) directly, and he wasted no time getting back to me with an answer. thank you to him, and all of you, and to everyone else who would help no matter what. i, and a gazillion other people, appreciate it all more than anyone can know.

*blushes at the mention of her name*

Well, I know of one good dog breeder. My Aunt & Uncle. They breed the tiny chihuahuas and Italian Greyhounds.. I built them a website, www.brookskennel.com/, and they were totally swamped by requests for puppies - and they answered everyone and never evaded ANY questions.

hehe They actually just got some new pics, so I have to update their site..

i agree. it is very nice to have people try and help as best they can, without being able to be there in person.

man, horse breeders are even worse than dog breeders...
