Very newbie question

Mizar 21 Mar 14, 2004 06:03 PM

I'm doing some research on the ball python, i want to maybe get one soon Right now i have a water snake and a collared lizard. My question is, can a young python be comfortable in a 24x12 aquarium ? When should it be a good idea to change for a 36x12 ? These are the two size i have.

Second question, what are the small hole near the jaws of the python ? On his "upper lips"

put it immediately in the 36 by 12 cage. Then if it gets over 3' you will need a cage 36 by 18 or 36 by 24. And i think so correct me if im wrong the little holes are the breathing thingys.

I think they are heat pits, that help them "see"

Those are their heat pits. They have 2 nostrils for breathing.

Go ahead and start out with the 36" tank. Provide plenty of hides for security. That length will be fine for an adult, but I'd personally go for something with extra depth.

I have an organized care sheet I've put together of all the great tips I've picked up on various forums. I'd be happy to email to you if you like. Just send me an email if you're interested:
