Northern California Report - First Lampropeltis zonata zonata *Pics*

Stephen Emerick Mar 14, 2004 07:08 PM

Well after missing a collecting season last year due to my divorce, I finally got a chance to head back up to Lake County and search for Double-Zs for the first time in over a year. Weather has been great (mid 70's to 80's) the last two weeks, and I've been seeing some DOA garter and gopher snakes on the local roads.

Got up to the site around noon or so, and started searching the crevices in the outcroppings along a Northern face. It only took about half an hour until I spied this beauty and snapped a few photos. She might be the prettiest (as far as banding and colors) that I can remember us collecting in the last few years of our ZZ hunts.

Thanks, Stephen Emerick

Nice catch there Stephen! Great that you included the pic of how you found her also- I'm sure a lot of people would have walked right past that rocky crevice and never seen the flash of red.
