lilroach56 Mar 14, 2004 07:25 PM

are those an acceptable substatute to mealies/crickets? say if you were away and needed someone who could make that?

No those wouldn't work. The geckos that eat that diet are more fruit eaters. It would be like feeding a snake bananas.

FYI...the crested diet has about the sam amount of protien as a cricket, the gargoyle diet has more. They are actually complet balanced diets that provide ALL the macro and micro nutrients the animal needs to survive. The problem he would have is getting a leo to willingly eat it. The reason that the Rhacodactylus eat it so readily is that they are omnivous that love fruit flavors. What the diets do is exploit that by adding attractants such as honey powder and banana powder. Beyond those two ingredients, the diets pack a powerful punch of nutrients. Hope this helped.

I don't think there are many leos that would eat it on their own. If they did and they ate enoughof it, it would certainly provide the nutrients it needs. I have been feeding them to my Rhacs for about a year now. It's the only food they get. If you were to seriously try it though, I would use the gargoyle diet as it has the highest amount of protien. I mean how long would you be gone for?

it would only be like a week during spring break. Do you have any suggestions on what my leo could eat during that time? should i try the freeze dried mealies and crickets?

An almost full grown of full grown leo could go a week without feed easy. You could unplug the heat source to slow metabolism a bit, as long as your room stays above 60f. Just make sure it has fresh water.
