licenses for breeders?

umop_apisdn Mar 14, 2004 08:01 PM

i was wondering if anyone would know if there is any type of license or whatever kind of authorization to breed and sell your herps. i have a few lizards, and i plan on getting some rarer leaf tail geckos. i was wondering if, say, CITES were to ban trade on animals from madigascar. well then i have my uroplatus geckos that i am trying to breed, am i going to have to do paperwork if i want to sell them after i bred them myself?

As for a License to breed your animals that will be up to your local state and city laws. As long as the animals are not App.I ESA protected there will be no problems selling them. If they are ESA then crossing state lines is where a Federal Permit is required. Leaf-Tail Geckos are not protected by CITES now and have no regulation on their sales other than your local laws but not specifically on that species. You can contact your Local Fish & wildlife and they can give you all the information on if there is a license requirement.
