How do I differentiate jungle and normal leo when they are babies?

gothra Mar 14, 2004 08:09 PM

Hi everyone,

I wanted to get a jungle phase leopard gecko, can anyone show me a pic of how a jungle baby should look like? From where I live (overseas), I could only get leopard geckos from reptile shop, so I am picking them from their windows.

For your information, I already have 2 normal/high yellow, 2 albino, 1 tang, 1 patternless and 1 blizzard; so I really want to get something different, any suggestions? (hypos or super hypos cost ridiculously (sp?) high, so can't be an option. Thanx.

Hello.

Alot of the time the only way to tell apart the babies is by the shapes of thier black stripes. If the striped are striaght side to side, then the gecko is a normal or will soon be a high yellow. Jungles have rain drop shapes and wierd shapes like that. Here is some pictures I found of 1-10 month old jungles.

This is a perfect site to show you what I mean whe ni say "or a high yellow" you can see the rain drop shape in the baby and the other pics are as it ages.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you can see the baby snow jungle, thats exactly what a baby jungle should look like.

Sorry thats all I could find. Good luck and remember, its all about the shape of the black pigment when they are very young.

Jungle or normal is one of the few traits you can differentiate between from the day a leo is born. Normals have regular bands around their bodies and tails, and jungles have irregularly banded tails (usually bodies as well). If the body has irregular banding, but not the tail, then its an abberant.
