non-eating argus...

Scott Austin Mar 14, 2004 08:25 PM

I've had an argus monitor for about 6 months now. His cage is set-up the same as Pro-exotics set's up there cages for their water monitors. He seems to eat good for about two weeks, and then he will not eat again until he gets very thin. When that that happens he starts to eat again, and the cycle repeats itself. He hasn't grown at all since I've had him. I mainly feed him mice, but he gets offered cooked chicken, turkey, beef, crikets, and mealworms. He doesn't to prefer one or the other, he'll just eat anything and then nothing. Any help will do.

I havent so describe the cage and all of its details, the finest of left out details can make a difference. If ProExotics has theirs set up a certain way and it works then maybe you need to look again before comparing them. Consider its an argus also not a salvator. A good friend has a few salvators that seem to enjoy a wet swampy cage (not sure why), but their argus is in a dry cage with a drinking dish, yet that big monster of an argus is a "trash disposal", if noone else eats it feed it to him.
