Box Turtle Pricing?

Brady Mar 14, 2004 09:52 PM

Hey,
What is a good price to pay for the following box turtles from a breeder? I have been talking to some breeders about cb hatchlings and want to make sure i'm not getting taken. I just want a reasonable price quote that is usually asked, is fair and should be expected. Heres the list i'm looking at/for.
Gulf Coast
Three Toed
Eastern
Ornate
Florida
Thanks alot for the help,
Brady

Hey there. Here are some reasonable prices you can seen being asked for the following hatchling box turtles.

Gulf Coast hatchlings- anywhere between 25-40 dollars. There were 8 being offered by a Breeder on www.turtletimes.com in the turtle classifieds section.

Three Toed Hatchlings- somewhere in the price range of 25-45 dollars will be asked for. I actually just bought one(and am ordering another) from a breeder who is charging 50 dollars. It all depends really how they are cared for, these I could tell were extremelywell cared for, and are 5- 7 months old. 5 dollars more was worth the extra care!

Eastern hatchlings- 30-50 is reasonably asked for.

Ornate an average is 50-65.

Florida Hatchlings, since they are more 'rare' you can expect to pay between 100-135 dollars. I would not recomend paying more than 140.

Again It all depends where you buy and who you buy from. A breeder would charge more then a hobbyist who 'lucked out' and hatched some hatchlings. The care and habitat issue also plays a role in price. You will pay more for a hatchling that was VERY well cared for, and of course the age of the hatchling plays in as well. Check out turtletimes.com the breeder I buy from now, is advertising there. Quality will always cost more, just be careful they do not abuse this.
