Res Found/Bad shape

turtlesong Mar 15, 2004 12:33 AM

Found a res. About 1yr. old. It was in a dirty stream, newly awakened from hibernation. It's shell is three-fourths white, I guess shell rot. It's left eye won't open. It's undernurished, but ate some worms.

What should I do? How long should I keep it out of the water? I've only got 'Povidone Iodine' here, nothing else. Can't take it to the vet. It's shell is also covered with algae.

No offense but didn't you just post not that long ago about abandoning your turtles? Would it really be a wise idea to try to take on another? Especially if you cant give him the proper care of taking him to the vet if he has something wrong. I'm really not trying to be mean, it just doesn't seem like you were able to provide for the others that were healthy, a sick turtle is a lot of work. Then again what do you do? Just leave him in his environment? Who knows if he's always been in the wild or just the product of another careless owner realizing that taking on a turtle is a lot of work and took the easy way out. Good luck, but I urge you not to take on any more if the same thing is going to happen as did your others.
