Dickerson Collared Breeding Questions.

spokanelady Mar 15, 2004 01:27 AM

Hi, I'm Wendy. Jeane's daughter. I come here in search of some help. I am in love with Indi. Her male dickerson. She is the keeper of a dickerson pair, and lots of aqua flame pairs. All new to her house of lizards this year.
Heres the delema.....Indi hated his mate. In fact she separated them because they where trying to kill one another. Now he has on of the aqua flames to keep him company and seems happy. I tried to find her a replacment male so I can have Indi with no luck. So, now it is my mission to make him love his mate that was sent packing (she hates us too) and make little Indis so he wont be missed when I steal him. LOL
Any help would be much appreciated. Temps, Hibernating, food , ect.
Thanks in advance. Hate to break up a happy home by stealing a lizard.

Anyway, We have a couple experts in Dickersonae breeding here on the forum, that could probably give you some advice.

You may want to give Brockn a holler or Will Wells.

One thing I have learned about them, by listening, seems to be some males MUST be kept alone.

Because of their aggression towards the female. And only introduced, under supervision of a watchful eye during breeding.

Your even saying the female is super aggressive towards him as well as YOU ! I would not put them back together, unless right there.

I personally would also watch the little aquaflame you put with him !

Like I say give those guys a post and I'm sure they can help with your questions !!

Hope all turns out okay ! Let us know

The basic requirements (in terms of heat, diet, UV lighting, etc.) for maintaining C. dickersonae in captivity are more or less the same as with other collared lizard species. Selected adult Dickerson males can at times become exceedingly territorial during the breeding season, and should be housed in their own enclosures. I do allow some of my male and female C. dickersonae to cohabit on a year-round basis; however, careful monitoring of the prevailing temperament/disposition of individual lizards is advised before attempting to do so. By the way, I strongly recommend arranging any C. dickersonae vivarium housing an adult male in such a way that males in other enclosures cannot possibly be seen from any vantage point... Not sure I answered your question, but I hope this helps a bit...

It answered a bit. Although there seems to be a debate about hibernating them. Do we or don't we. Some say they would breed right awat if we did. He is away from her abundance of other lizards. She is not with him at the time either cause they just dont seem to get along. Actually all it seems he does is sleep.
