Filter questions

I have 2 baby RES and I keep them in a 10 gal tank. I was wondering what kind of filter I should get them. I haven't really been able to afford one until now. Do filters really work? Right now I change the water every other day and I scoop poop thoughout the day. On days that I don't clean the tank I feed them in a separate container so they don't get the tank as dirty. I've read that some filters are too strong for baby turtles. I plan on buying a bigger tank so I think I want a canister filter. Would this be okay or would it push my turtles around too much? Any info would be great thanks!

Filters are not too strong based on the size of the turtle, but rather based on the size of the tank. You cant run a 1000 gph filter in a 10 gallon tank, but in a 120 gallon with water 2 feet deep, its no big deal.
