Eating Habits???

linda102565 Jun 11, 2003 03:23 PM

Hey everyone...
Is 2 small mice in 2 days to much for an approx 40 inch BP to much to be feeding???
I fed Monty a prekilled Monday afternoon, and last night I noticed him moving around a lot in his cage and tried to pet him and he got into his stricking pose. So, I decide to drop a mouse in and as soon as the mouse (live) hit the floor of Monty's cage, he attacked and ate it... Is this okay, 2 mice in 2 days and is it okay to feed either of the 3 (prekilled, F/T, or live)???

Please just ignore me if Im wrong but I have read that the item of prey should be about the same body girth as the snake that you are feeding it to. I hope this helps.

For a 3' foot ball python, you should be on larger feeders than a small mouse! I'd be on jumbo-sized mice, or rat pups, if I were being you! If you stick with small mice, two should be the minimum. If he's still eating it, having an extra is not a bad thing, though you should wait a few days between feedings rather than on consecutive days. Of course, these are just my opinions and you are likely to get a lot of contradicting opinions. My three-footers eat small rats about the size of my fist, and my 4-or-greater-footers eat medium rats that are about double that size.
