Does it take Guyanas forever to digest???????????????

Slimmerman Mar 15, 2004 08:47 AM

I fed her two med. mice on Thurs 1pm, she is 27inches long, and she still has a large bulge in her belly! the day temp. is 87f, with a basking spot of 95F, and the cool side @ 85F. I'm more than a little concerned that she'll regurge. The snakes I've had in the past took max 4 days b4 the bulge was gone. Should I be concerned??????????? thanks

You're feeding her too much - for this, you should be concerned.

You also mention 'basking'... what about underbelly heat? How will she digest when the basking light is turned off at night?

I do have many boas that will accept food after about 4 days, when the previous meal is no longer too noticeable, however..
I also have many that will not eat again until having defecated - this is also recommened by many - and this can take from 4 days to 2 weeks or more!

just my $.02

Thanks for your $0.02, she has the option to go on a heating pad, she's not interested in it. Also, I have a red night light for her basking needs. Sorry I failed to include those vital details in my post. (can't expect everyone to be psychic)

Gotcha - thanks for the details... that would deffinately help... now that I look back, she may have too much heat! lol..
85 on the cool side is a little high for me.. some people believe it needs to be that high, i've had top breeders tell me otherwise....
I had a regurge problem looooong ago from a small collection I had at the time in a room that was too hot.. 85 ish..

Other than that, is this the first time feeding, meaning, is it a new snake? she may just have a slower digestion system.

Unless she has some source of stress, mites/parasites, infection or sickness, she just seems a bit slow on digestion...

if there is anything else I forgot, someone else please assist..
