mabey a vivarium

ortega Mar 15, 2004 11:41 AM

Well, I have always loved frogs, but have never kept one. I was givin this vivarium and thought it would work out well as a vivarium with plants and frogs. Any one with experiance think this would be a good idea. I got a lot of researc to do pertaining to plants and frogs, but I want to know if this is as good an idea as I think it is. The top has an opening, so the frog has to be contained somehow; any ideas?

It looks a little small, how big is it?

its 16 1/2 inches in diameter.

Yeah, it's a bit to small for most frogs since most need at least a 10 gallon aquarium and that would be smaller than that.

You also have to think that it's a lot wider than a 10 gal aquarium. In fact, I'd be willing to bet it's got more floor space than a 10gal. any day.

Personally, I think whatever you could put in a 10 gallon aquarium you could probably put in there. Since I don't have much experience with frogs I'm just talking about space and not functionality so keep that in mind.

it is almost 214 sq. inches. That is a little bit bigger than a 10 gal.

I was trying to remember how to figure that out. Been a while since I was in school!

If you don't mind, what was the formula you used?

here is the formula.
pi(3.14) times the radius squared
in this case the radius is 8.25 (1/2 diameter=radius) and pi is 3.14
so 8.25 * 8.25=68.06
68.03 * 3.14=213.7

so it's a little bigger than a 10 gallon, and that means its a go right? i am planning to make a cool ass vivarium with a couple dart frogs and plants in it. I'll post pics once put it all together, can't wait, but have to because school is almost over and im getting killed with work. thanxs everyone!

i am pretty sure you would only be able to keep a singel dart in that tank, but i am not sure. Also it is going to be hard to heat. and everything will need to be round.

why would i need to heat it? my house is at least 65 degrees, would that not suit a dart frog? If not what other type of frog would suit my setup?

lilroach56 Mar 20, 2004 03:56 PM

if my memory serves me right dart frogs like 70-80 degrees.
