i'm very worried!!

canamaha Mar 15, 2004 02:25 PM

Today when i fed my uros i noticed that my male mali has what looks like blisters on his back.He came out to eat on his own and then went right back into his hide spot.I gaged the temperature on the basking spot and after about 20 minutes the thermometor was at 120 degrees F and humidity was dry.Does anyone else have any experience with anything like this? He's always been very healthy and i've had him for about 3 years and nothing like this has ever happened.I'm very worried and very scared and there is no vet in this area that has any experience with uros..any advice would be greatly appreciated..Thanks!!

Pics are always helpful. I believe we have a vet on this board (or a former vet, I can't remember now). Maybe he could help identify the problem but it's difficult to diagnose something without a visual.
I hope it's nothing serious and that your little guy is healthy and happy.

I don't know if this is what he's got, but there is a thing called blister disease. I don't know a lot about it, but you can research it on the internet. It is very, very serious, and if this is what you're dealing with, get him to a vet pronto. Take him to a vet far away if you have to, or take him to someone with reptile experience (even if it isn't uros).

I've not dealt with this personally, but I know it's a big deal. Perhaps your problem is something unrelated, but I thought I should mention it. Good luck! I hope it's nothing serious!!

It talks about iguanas but the diseases in here affect uromastyx as well. "Blister disease"'s scientific name is Vesicular Dermatitis. Any additional info would help.

Good luck

...did I mention how much I love that picture of Ra? It's super cute! He looks quite perky.
