Pictures of leos at dinner time:

davecable Mar 15, 2004 05:20 PM

Here are a few shots I took of my subadult tank, there are 8 leos and they all came out to eat and get their picture taken. See if you can spot all 8 in a few of the pictures. If you guys have any good pics of your leo chowing down, post um! Enjoy:

In the third pic they can all be seen. Great pics Dave! 2 questions for you: 1) Can the supers climb out of that bowl? 2)If not where did you get them (The bowls I mean)?

They rarely can climb out on their own. When the geckos are feeding some worms end up out side the dish, as you can see in the pics. One girl caught and ate 2 at once, I like that pic (second from top).

The dish is a ceramic bowl, I buy mine from petco, they are $1.49 when on sale. The worms have a hard time climbing the ceramic sides, and it cleans up well. Supers can get out of a dish that size so I use a something larger when feeding them. Thanks for the complement,

Take a look at your local thrift store, I picked up some pudding dishes that work well for feeding off supers, and they work as water dishes also. They are a bit tall, but the leos get the hang of it in a day or so.

How do you tell them all apart?!
those are really cute pics btw

davecable Mar 15, 2004 09:47 PM

Thx again. It is pretty hard to tell them apart, they all had the same father (tremper albino).

I forgot I had this picture laying around, I found it when responding to Red. This shows the type of dish I use for supers:

That looks like a really deep dish. I was using nice clear glass, deep ash trays but my girls must be a bit thick cause they didn't figure out to go up over the edge of the dish. Usually they go at the worms from the side, banging their noses on the glass....I can see the frustration in their faces too, as they continue to hit the glass trying so hard to get the worms. Even now with more shallow dishes i still find a few of them haven't figured it out....they still go at it from the side, only going over and getting the worms after their nose is sore i'm sure LOL In the mean time the worms escape the dishes. Its rather frustrating for me LOL.

Flame and Karma two of my new girls only seem to be interested in supers or really huge butterworms. They don't even notice the mealworms. Flame will come out and take them from my hand if i don't get them in the dish quick enough...its cool actually. but if i try the same with mealies she hides. I love these geckos.....hehehe

i used a cream cheese container, mine would basically huge the container and "sit" then stab at the mealworms, now i switched to a lid and she's digging and throwing the calcium/vitamin powder everywhere. You gotta love em.

How large is that tank?

Thanks

RedQuake Mar 15, 2004 09:43 PM

Awesome pics!!!!! Do you by any chance have a pic of the entire tank? How large is it? All of your geckos are absolutely amazing!!! From what i saw i love the setup.

Thanks,
Red
P.S. eight geckos......do they ever have disagreements or fights?

Thanks so much Red, I really like my little girls too. I have posted pics of the tank b/4, you should remember when you see them. I was just really lucky to catch them all in the same area of the tank at one time.

They all get along just fine; they have been raised in at least 2’s since they hatched, so they are pretty social and tame. I was a bit worried that you guys would think that one of my geckos had a head scar. It kinda looks that way in the 3rd pic, but it’s just some crud on the glass, you can see she’s perfect in the following pics. I guess I should have put up a disclaimer. Anyhow glad you enjoyed the pics!

Ya i remember now lol, my mind is failing me i think. I didn't realize the actual size of the tank until i saw the dinner time pics. The geckos really put it into perspective. I really need to get pics of my tanks up, but unfortunetly i've lost the disk for the scanner and have no clue if it'll work or not. I'm hoping to avoid the whole taking pics, developing the film and scanning.....i only ever get crappy pics that way. So i'm hoping that i'll be able to pick up a digital camera this coming pay.

All of my girls were curled up in groups sleeping, with Lily coming out to see what i was up to. They are just tooooooo cool.

I only have three, and there is always something funny going on. I can only imagine 8.

davecable Mar 16, 2004 12:35 AM

Yup, there is almost always something going on in that tank. When I got my first gecko, Spike, I would sit and stare in his cage waiting for one of those cute moments. I guess that’s why I bought more, I figured while some were sleeping the other would be out and about doing cool stuff. Well that is the case, but now I have so many it’s sometimes hard to give them the personal attention they all deserve. I’ll probably be thinning out my collection sometime this year, and try to focus my projects a little better. Best of luck with your little guys!
