My breeder sayes that I can handle it as soon as I bring it home,but my referance books say that I should wait a week. Please help and thanks in advance for the help.

Waiting is usually the best rule. Of course, I break this rule EVERY TIME I get a new snake!
The snake will let you know. If he's hiding a lot at first and seems a bit stressed, you should probably let him be. Look at him at night...if he's out and about (BP's are nocturnal) picking him up shouldn't cause any problems at all. Enjoy, and don't feel too bad if you can't resist picking that bad boy up before a week's out...I never can either!!!
