coconut soil..

anemone Mar 15, 2004 09:32 PM

Can I use this as a substrate on my 2 baby leos? Currently I have just reptile carpet(w/ gravel underneath) and they seem fine. But I've been using this bed-a-beast coconut like fiber soil stuff on my frogs and really like it. I'd like to have their cage more natural. So, if I use the coconut fiber soil do I put anything on top of that?

Don't use it for leos...it holds moisture, they could eat it, and is difficult to keep clean. I recommend using tile, its very easy to clean, holds heat, if you get vinyl you can just cut it with scissors to fit the tank, it looks pretty natural compared to their natural habitat, and basically just looks pretty good

Is this easy to clean ? I have a friend who use coconut soil on his Leo and he likes it...How do you use it with your frog ?

tell your friend he should switch substrates.....coconut fiber is difficult to clean holds moisture (which is bad for leos....who need low humidity), and they can eat it, which could cause compaction. If you like it because it looks natural...think again, leos live on nothing like coconut bark in the wild...they live mostly on rocks. Read my post above...I recommend tile
