fadetolemons Mar 15, 2004 09:49 PM

I took one of my geckos out so i could clean the cage, i set him on the floor for like 30 seconds and he's gone. I've been looking for like an hour, and it's a closed in room w/out anywhere to go.... i'm sooo worried, i'm hoping he turns up, this is so crazy. Damnit, i was so stupid to do that.. but he's really dissapeared, i've looked EVERYWHERE.. anyways i gotta go keep looking, pray for me

I lost one of my girls for a little while in my room one day during a cleaning session. She crawled close to 15 feet across my bedroom behind my waterbed no less, and curled up underneath a pillow I had on the ground. She liked the dark pillow over my recliner in the bedroom. You'd be surprised where you might find your little leo. Good luck though!

how long were you looking for her? Mines been missing for like 1.5 hours, and i've been searching vigorously. I'm going insane, he's probably stuck somewhere or dead. I've looked EVERYWHERE i can and i haven't seen him.

My girl was gone for about an hour or two, but I was lucky because my bedroom isn't huge. Is your lost in a smaller room? What I mean by that is, not in a large family or living room but like a bedroom? You can try to rig a heat lamp out in the open in the room you lost it in so maybe it will make it's way to it. Just look under dark things, anything low the thr groud it could have crawled up into. If you have any chairs they could crawl into. I had a recliner and she could have easily crawled up into that. Don't give up! The babies can move pretty quick, but once they are settled in a nice dark spot they really won't need to move.

it's in my bedroom, but it's pretty large for a bedroom and there are a lot of things it could hide in/under. But i've looked in everything i can think of, through all of the clothes in my closet, in the VCR, under everything. It's gone. I'm afraid i try to move anything big to look under, i'll crush him. I've been looking for like 2 hours now and i feel so tired and sick, but i have to find him.

is take a deep breath and take a moment to calm down. I know first hand that racing around trying in a frendzy to find something is just going to get you upset and unable to find what your looking for.

If you have honestly checked everywhere you can think of, then here is what i've read people suggest. set up a light, red is preferable, and a water dish. Under the light put his/her favourite hide.

Your gecko is there, hiding, and i've also read of geckos missing for months and then being found. If your sure there is no route of escape then block off any space under your door, if there is one and just wait. You can try to look again in a while but do it slowly and take a flashlight and look under and behind all furniture.

You'll find him i'm sure....

oh and mine was missing for 3 days.. i thought she was dead. you'd be suprised where they can hide and stuff.

just advice mine went missing from crawlingout of a box, they can do more than you'd think, so letting it downon the floor isn't a good idea (as you now know) but people make mistakes i'm sure you will find your leo !! good luck! let us know.

Thank god.. just found him. My I called my g/f about it and she convinced me to just set up a heat pad and go to bed and find him tommorow, so i did this and as i went to get in bed, I glanced behind my bed where I had pulled it forward before looking for him, and suddenly saw him bolt between my box springs. You know how a mattress usually has a box spring under it? Well my box spring was too big to fit into the stairway leading up into my attic room, so they had to cut it in half, and i had pulled the halves apart looking for him, so i just saw him run inbetween them. I went to the other side and pulled them apart at both ends so i could see through under my bed (i jsut have a box spring and mattress, no bedframe or anything). So i see him just walking back and forth, back and forth, not coming out either end, so i set up a heat pad at one end, and he starts to come out, and i go for him, and he runs back in. So after another 10 minutes of this, I just lift up the mattress and grab him. Got him back in the cage w/ his buddies and now i'm going to bed. Thanks for the help guys, sorry I flipped out about it, I learned a lot though. Crazy geckoes.

I knew you would. I dread having a leo escape. Theres an access point into the walls where the fuse box is. It used to be a diaginal panel in one corner but we made it into a little, and i do mean little room (new walls all around it) and we were supposed to put a door on it but never got around to that. So should one escape they could get into the walls and be gone for good. Thats also where the cold draft might be coming from lol. I'm lucky in that most of the tanks and screen tops i bought came with a way to lock it, especially when it comes to my crested geckos hehehe

Place hides in any dark area of your room. Preferably hides from the tank. Put their water dish and dish of mealworms by them. It will also attract him if its warm nearby. Also, if you sprinkle flour around, you can see if you've had any visitors come to your mealworm dish. Check the hides frequently. Eventually, you'll find your leo in one of them. Your leo is not dead. Trust me, if they see anything dangerous, they dart to the nearest safe spot. Leos are on of the most nervous pets that i have ever kept. They will find a dark safe spot. It takes a long time for them to starve to death. And i guaruntee you they will not get too cold. They will find the warmest spot in your room. Also, leos can slip throught the smallest spaces. Make sure that it couldnt have slipped under the door.

ew1074 Mar 15, 2004 11:31 PM

It would probably also help if you made the room as bright as possible, eliminating as many hiding spots as possible. This will make your decoys more attractive.
