Shed length!!!

zooguy Mar 16, 2004 12:17 AM

My corn just shed. I thought that he was about 18". Then again, it is really hard to measure a constantly moving snake. I measured the shed and it turned out to be about 20". Can I look at this as an accurate measurement, or could the shed have stretched as it came off?

Thank you for your time

The shed skin usually stretches as it comes off. If you felt it straight away it's quite soft, and only becomes crispy when it's dried out.

So you can't really use it as a measure of your snake. But it'll give you a rough idea of the area its in.

I've heard that a shed skin can be as much as 25% longer than the snake, depending on how much it was stretched.
