Getting Along?

bast Mar 16, 2004 06:33 AM

Hello,

I have a small male rhino iguana. He is approximately 20 inches long and 200 grams. I am thinking of trying to get a male blue of similar size.

Are their any out there now?

What are the chaces that they could cohabitate in a large cage?
(I know it depends on the individuals but should this even be attempted?)

Thank you,

Brian

Brian, from my own experience I can tell you that I've had no success with males getting along, or females for that matter. I've kept pairs of Cyclura together peacefully and I've kept male Cyclura and male Green Iguanas together peacefully, but never 2 male Cyclura. My female Cyclura also do not tolerate each other well at all so I keep them separate.
I don't know anyone that has hybrid babies right now but my friends that were at the Tampa show this past weekend saw lots of Cuban babies and cheap...$125. That makes me sad.

I have a 6yr old rhino and a 7yr old hybrid, both male. They want to kill each other since day one to now. There is no way they would tolerate the other. It makes for some great head bobbing and posturing though.
My hybrid would not even accept green igs when I had them.

That's good to know. I thought that there may be interspecies aggression with Cyclura. I was hoping against it. It's amazing that they even hate green iguanas to. I would not have guessed that. Thank you for the input.

I am becoming obsessed with Cyclura and the blues are amazing.

Thank you as always,

Brian

Mine get along with the Greens..never had a problem there. But they seem to tolerate many other species. I've got some strange photos.

I agree too. I have been unsuccessfully trying to get my male cyclura caymanensis to get along with my 13 yr old green male. As of yet it has been unsuccessful. They are kept on opposite sides of the house and if the doors are left open all they do is try to get to the other one's room to spar. So far the sparring has included only mock breeding with each other. They dont SEEM to want to hurt each other but I have never let it get any further than the breeding bite. I separate them and put them back. My assumption at this point is that they will simply never get along.
