rayquaza Mar 16, 2004 09:38 AM

weve had this skink about a year now and he is doing great. But about 3 mnths ago the uv lite my son was using broke and when I went to the pet store the guy there said that a Greater Prairie Skink didnt need uv lite. So I didnt buy one. But after reading some stuff on other skinks Im wondering if this guy knew what he was talking about.Should I go ahead a use UV just to be safe or was he right? ..Thanx

Hello,

This species is diurnal so UV is required-YES. Go get the UV bulb or if your set-up and climate warrent it, take her/him outside.

Sincerely,
Brian

Correct me if I'm wrong but, the way I understand it, a half hour in real sunlight is worth about three months under one of those lights. No?

I don't think your liz's are going out to bask in the sun.

So a bulb will have to be his sun for now..and I am not sure how I would go about giving him sun..I have heard uv doesnt go through glass so I would have to have a small cage, possibly screening instead of wire..and then I would have worry the whole time that he didnt overheat. The sun here can get pretty brutal at times..Maybe Ill see what I can come up with as the weather gets better..perhaps a wooden box with a screen top, that sounds the most workable..
