Markings on beardies

jcunitz Mar 16, 2004 10:44 AM

Okay this may be a stupid question, but I just had to ask just in case it's what I think it is.
I have noticed at a few sites that sell beardies appear to have marked on their backs right above the tail for whatever purpose that serves (clutch, sex, morph) It's usually a pink, red or blue dot or two.
But what are those markings from? It looks like nail polish. If it is nail polish, wouldn't that be very harmful?

It is nail polish, non-toxic paint pen, sharpie, etc. It's not harmful, they're not eating it.

Like Sean said, it doesn't harm the dragon and it comes off with each shed. We generally use a color system so that we know which dragon is which and we can keep track of who is sold from what clutch, etc. I use markers on my babies.

We have a young dragon (four months) and she had nail polish on her. That was six weeks ago. Now, every time she sheds, that piece of shedding skin has to be soaked in order to come off. She sheds JUST fine except in that one area where she had the polish.

I tried nail polish ONCE and wasn't happy with how it shed off ... or should I say didn't shed off easily. Since then it has been marker pen and nothing else.

I think yours will eventually grow out of needing help with that problem area though
