the previous owner said it was a milksnake, which i didnt believe that from first sight. I have been looking up pics and I believe it is a desert kingsnake. Am i right? ps. it is getting ready to shed.

Thats a Lampropeltis getulus nigritus.

That's not the belly of a Nigritus. It looks like a Desert to me too.

Well I have showed these pics around to a few more snake people and I was told it is definately a desert king. I also read that the markings on a hatchling desert king are brighter and get duller with age. Also deserts get about 4 feet, sometimes up to 5 ft. Well this beauty is approx. 4, so he must be an adult. I also popped him to sex him, its definately a male. (through popping i also found my bp to be a female) Thanks everyone. I will post more pics once he sheds.

I'm impressed you were able to pop a 4 foot male. Usually only juveniles can be popped with much success. Don't trust popping to ID a female, to be really sure a female IS a female you need to probe her...popping can only confirm males, imho.
