Two things......IMPORTANT

I know that it is difficult to raise ADF tadpoles but any advice would be great! My first batch lasted for about a week and a half before dying. The second batch has just recently hatched and I wanted to know if any methods of raising the tadpoles have been successful for you guys.

Also...I feel so bad for my female frog because like every second the male tries to mount her and he usually gets away with it. Is this normal for them to do it like, all the time? thanks!

I'm trying something new after having several batches die on me in the past. For sure, I'm not using a still water tank or tadpole frog bites for food.

I talked to an employee at Petco and he gave me some ideas. First, use a tank that will get lots of aeration. In other words, use a tank with an undergravel filter. I got a 1 gallon tank for $10. I'm using grocery store bought spring water and treated it with Cycle bacteria additive by Nutrafin. I'm also changing 1/4 of the water every 5 days.

For food he said use mashed up fish flakes but instead I've been using frozen baby brine shimp from the get go. The tadpoles seem to like it so far; more so than the fish flakes because the aeration moves the food around to make it look live. I asked the Petco guy about using infusoria and daphinia, he said it's not really necessary and it might spoil the tank. And you'd have to go through the mess of making the infusoria. I've read elsewhere that using baby brine shrimp or micro-worms work well and there's no need to use infusoria. Once they get big enough then I'll use regular brine shrimp.

The whole setup: tank, gravel, water, bacteria, and food cost about $25.

I'm trying to keep it as low tech as possible because from the other articles posted on the web it really gets too complicated. I'm in my first week so far. We'll see how it goes.......
