Feeding a northern?

demiturtle Mar 16, 2004 05:57 PM

I was wondering if i should feed the watersnake minnows or goldfish. The snake i will be getting is a northern watersnake and is neonate. the goldfish would be the most readily availible, but i might be able to get some minnows. Also, what about rosies? Thanks for any replies.

All will work, however members of the minnow(carp) family, tend to cause vitamin B deficiency if fed exclusivly. If you look down through the forum you will certainly find more info on it. To sum it up though, goldfish, minnows/rosies, can be used as feeders, but you should think of supplimenting with a vitamin or also feeding amphibians or converting to feed rodents in the mix(my personal favorite as amphibians can transfer parasites).
