Anyone use Marion dry diets for Cyclura?

Carmichael Mar 16, 2004 06:02 PM

Based on a tip someone gave me a while back on this forum, we have begun adding Marion Leaf eater and reptile herbivore diet into our rhino iguana's diet. Now that they are yearlings, we have switched to a primarily herbivore diet which includes lots of dark, leafy greens, veggies, edible flowers, some fruit and the Marion Diet (we are currently using 2 parts of leafeater to one part reptile herbivore)...these animals still get some animal protein but it is a very small percentage of their total diet. Since adding Marion (we basically keep bowls filled with this diet in between fresh produce feedings), we have noticed excellent growth, activity patterns, better color, and excellent muscle tone. Anyone else use this product as part of a varied diet? Any thoughts?

Hello,

No, we haven't used the product but I'd like to hear more.
Sorry we don't have any hands-on experience with this item to help you out.

Sincerely,

Rob, there are a couple of people that visit here that have tried or have been using it. I think Jeff and Joel have both used it. I hope they come along and give you their thoughts. I'm going to try it eventually.

Now, here's the reason for my post. Could you possibly bring your Black Roughneck to Fest? LOL I would love to see him!!

I was planning on bringing Larry the black roughneck monitor but right now, he has an infected cornea (a freak accident). We are treating it aggressively and if it clears up, we'll bring him along as he is quite an impressive beast. Take care, Rob

I think that was me. I am still using it, my critters love it. They will pick through the food to eat it first. My rhino will hold out the next day till he gets it again. Eventually his hunger will win over and he will eat the greens. I have 2 issues with it though. The resulting feces is really soft. I have been told on this forum that this will change as they get used to the food, still waiting. 2nd, god it stinks when it comes out. I have used both leafeater and reptile and they like both but seem to like the reptile a bit better.
To be honest I have not really seen any difference in look or behavior in my cyclura. For me its just another way to vary their diet. Mine are hardly any kind of benchmark for the diet. Sounds like its a good fit for yours
