I didn't know that uros change colour when they're stressed

sunfox Mar 16, 2004 06:28 PM

I took Ra to his vet appointment yesterday. The vet removed the broken claw (it should grow back since the quick is still there), clipped the rest of the claws, measured and weighed Ra, and checked his overall condition. Needless to say that Ra was a little less than pleased about having to be restrained for the claw removal and clipping. He was totally puffed up, but the weird thing was, that the inside of his mouth (usually a soft pink colour) turned purple! He didn't hiss but I thought for sure that he'd bite the vet if he could reach. Ra's mouth stayed purple until Ra was handed back to me. He immediately deflated and calmed down, his mouth turned back to the soft pink colour it was before. Has anyone else noticed this colour change in a stressed-out uro?

By the way, Ra is much better now. I'm glad to see him happy again.

I don't think his body colour changed at all. His mouth was a nice shade of deep purple. I was glad to see that he feels safe when he's in my hands.
