Question for my fellow herpers.

Hi,
First off I would like to say thanks for taking the time to read and reply with your thoughts on this forum. I have a newly aquired female sumatran blood python. She is only approx. 1 1/2 ft. I got her from go lizards. She is very lethargic. She just lays in her hide box. She makes no effort to move when disturbed. If I pick her up to see if she is still ok. She just lies there totally limp making no effort to move. When I place her in her tank she makes no movment she will almost turn over. Obviously there is something not right. But being new to bloods I thought that I would ask before I take her to the vet. I am also wondering how to find out about other prople and there experiences with go lizard. I have and not impressed with them so far. I have had her for three days today.

Thanks,
Lee

Does she move her eyes and flick her tongue? Bloods are incredibly lazy, but that does sound a bit off, especially if your temps are good.

I have dealt with Kelli C. (I THINK that's her name, correct me if I'm wrong) from GOLIZARDS.COM. She is a very kind person and does sell some quality animals. However, I did not buy a blood python from her. We got a turtle and he's doing great. I doubt Kelli would sell something unhealthy, but who knows for sure. If you are in doubt about her, give her a call and she should work with you. In my experience, bloods and short tails are very lethargic, if given proper temps and humidity, except during breeding season and feeding time. Even the wild caughts are pretty lazy, but that's why I love them. They're just like me. If you are still in doubt, then taking the snake to the vet is a good precaution. Better to be safe than sorry. It is a good idea to get checkups on new animals anyway. It might be costly, but the life of an animal shouldn't be considered a "petty" issue.

Hey,
If you're having these kinds of doubts, it is probably wise to give her a call and get as much information on it as possible; possibly even getting the snake replaced with one that is more to your liking and one with a clean bill of health and some guanrantee on the part of the seller.
