Biginner Questions...

project1 Mar 16, 2004 07:07 PM

I just got an Albino Corn snake, and he is very active, he isn't very long, probably about a foot. I'm not having any problems what so ever (just set up the tank today... he is getting used to his new viv)... anyway, I just want to know if i'm doing everything right.

The tank is a 10 gallon standard tank.. I have a 33 and a 125 once he gets older (probably wont need the 125).. I have repti-bark as the substrate (I know it's bad for geckos, but it shouldn't be bad for the snake right? it's not ceder.. it's fir) I have a large water dish that takes up like a 3rd of the tank. a large plastic plant/vine that is kinda bunched up that he loves climbing in, and a nice cave. I don't have a reading for the temps yet but I have a 50 watt basking bulb.. a uth and a 40w blue bulb for nightime. I will post pics of my new guy shortly! (he is VERY pretty :P)

First things first, you need to make sure there are no gaps between your tank and cover.A juvie corn can escape from even the smallest gap.Second, you can get a cheap digital therm from wally world for around 12-14 bucks. You have to be real careful with heat bulbs and small tanks. It's hard to keep a good thermal gradient in a small tank so i reccomend a heating pad till you move up to the 30.You want to keep a hot spot of about 85 on one side and a cool spot on the other.Your waterbowl sounds a little big for a ten but will work great in a 30.Have fun with your new corn.....Paul.
