is "pinheading" real?

kingofrain21 Jun 11, 2003 05:41 PM

i have a corn that is (freshly measured) 4 feet 6 inches... his head is small though, he's decent girth, never overfed, always kept in a large enclosure... i've always taken good care of him, but his head is dwarfed by the rest of his body, what's the deal with "pinheading"?

Some corns jut have small heads. I have a large male (6') and because of his size he looks like he has a pinhead. If you look close at only his head you probably will not see many bigger corns heads .LOL I would just forget about it and enjoy your corn the way it is.

Actually the size of the head has to do with AGE and not the SIZE of the body. You can grow a snake pretty fast in captive situations (length and girth) but the head (skull) grows with age as in most animals.

There are always exceptions to the rule though.

i do like my corn the way he is, he's a beauty, but i was more concerned that i was doing something wrong that caused this... he's about to become a daddy any day now, here's a pic of him and her (although this was about 1 year ago) -- the eggs are on day 58

I agree with you. Have you seen 'Baby' the 27' Burmese python? She has a major pinhead syndrome. She is wel over 25 years of age. Pinhead is just a representation of the size of the head in comparison to the body. Most your Ballpythons and Boa's have a small head because we like to feed our babies.. LOL But all of them seem to loose their pinhead at age 3 or 4 when the head cathes up in growth.
