Hello I have just moved to Winnipeg not two weeks ago and I was purchaseing their feed @ a local pet store.I was then asked what snakes I have to be feeding such large prey.To my surprise,I have to becareful beacause my snakes are elligal in the city of Winnipeg. I own two beautiful Red tail Boas.(Not the most uncommon or lethal I might add, Of the boa species) Not only are Red Tails not allowed but the size as well.Sid is 7 feet long and Maggie is 5ft.I need to know if any one can tell me why they are not allowed in city limits and who to contact in Winnipeg to "register" them so i am not fined a thousand bucks for each one.

they are illegal because people are ignorant...and most herp laws are not written with reality in mind. don't contact anyone. order your rodents through a dealer like rodentpro.

emilyheidemann, sorry to hear that. I do not have advice for you on the laws there. I am sure Winnipeg is huge so I don’t know, can you move outside city limits? I know I would never give up my guys and would probable move somewhere else if something like that happened. But I guess the reality is that is not possible for everyone. Especially if you just bought a home. Good Luck.

I would do like chris says and order frozen rodents from a breeder. It is better and safer to feed frozen/thawed anyway.

I thank you for responding.Yes I have allready been through the venture of putting them on dead.Even so there are officers that watch for people who are buying large dead or live feed at different pet stores all the time.Oh well.I can not move out of city limits but my babies aren't going anywhere.I will pay whatever amount to "register" them if I have to.You don't raise boas to 5 and 7 ft just to get rid of them because of a little law...o.k o.k how's this. Out of sight, out of mind.Hopefully no one looks through the curtains and see's the 7ft terrarium in the living room.I can still enjoy them in the comfort of my own home.Thank you for your insight.Emily

You are very right Chris.I had that in mind. You know what I don't get is why the city of Winnipeg even goes so far as to take Gardener snakes out of the city limits.Gardener snakes aren't even free.Does that make any sence? Oh well I'll just have to find a good contact.I am just scared of even talking about it to any one. Some one got busted right before I came into the last pet store for talking about his rare and very large snake.an officer was standing right behind him while he was bragging about it.Busted with a $1000 fine. Thats o.k If I can find some good resources I will be fine.Thank you chris. Emily.

you have to play with the shipping to get the price down, and you have to buy in bulk or it's expensive...but you won't have to sneek around to find a supplier.
