Taming a GTP...

gifteen Mar 17, 2004 03:18 AM

I'm looking to get a GTP CB Baby (after I discover the right locality), then hoping to tame it from it's young age. I want a GTP that is comfortable with handling and that won't mind being handled every other day or every day.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend instructions on how to tame the snake, and also if anyone could give recommendations on a locality. I'd want one with a balance between blue and white, not too much of either, and a normal green, not bright or not dark.

Thanks

I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you absolutely have to handle an animal every single day... maybe chondros aren't for you. Some may be tolerate handling and appear to be "tame", but the constant stress may eventually cause problems for the snake. I myself am more than happy to just sit and stare at them while they cruise or sit motionless. I can literally do this for hours and not get bored.

As for locality, I would recommend an Aru simply because they typically display all of the features you are interested in. Then again, a Sorong or Wamena might be what you're looking for. If you do your homework before you buy, you won't be disappointed.

I would have to echo what Cory said. Although chondros can be as calm as cornsnakes, I don't handle mine often. I might get them out 4-5 times a year for pics or just general care. Even the chondros I can't hold, I still get the pleasure of looking at them whenever I want to........and it never gets old. You'll be satisfied either way. They are awesome creatures.
