I didnt get no sleep last night.. A FEW questions and some EXCITING NEWS

Jbuggs20 Mar 17, 2004 07:18 AM

Well for the questions 1st.
I have a breeding group of 1.4 last night I witnessed breeding between my male and my 2 bigger females. (looked like breeding) which is EXCITING for me which kept me up all night watching from a distance. BUT the male was seeming very aggressive towards the smaller 2 My opinion on this is they are 2 small for him to breed averageing in the 30 gram range the other 2 females are huge id say 60-70 gram range I noticed him chaseing them around the tank very aggresivly and not so much biting them but like nipping at them not enough to cause any damage or my 2 little girls would have been outta there.. My male has become even aggressive towards me sence he has his ladys. Now should I take the 2 females that are just outta breeding range from my breeding group? Also, I opened my incubator box just to take a peek and i was going over the direction and it confused me alittle I have the Hovabator made by GQF "World's Best Small Incubator". What i dont understand exactly is when i take it out of the box there is the bottom(styrophone) this plastic piece the size of the bottom a wire screen then the top(styrophone) then this L shaped screw and a nut. The instructions are very vague. Alittle assistance would be great i dont want to wait til i have eggs then be like OH SIT and not know how to set the incubator up.. Also, i take it when you set it up you should leave it running for a few hours to get the temperature right before the eggs go in? Also the incubator has a thermometer at the bottom attatched to the styrophone is that sufficient or should i get another thermometer to put on the level of the eggs? When i get eggs (crosses fingers) i heard that 80 degrees will give you all females 85 degrees a mix and 90 all male.. If this is true i was thinking of incubating around 82-83 i want females but if something happens and the temperature drops a couple of degrees i dont want it to be too low. I know its alot of questions shows i didnt get much sleep last night wracking my brain. My collection has grown in the last couple weeks!!

take the 30 gramers out, they are not large enough to breed nor old enough...... your females should be a minimum of 50 grmas to breed but in my opinion 55 is a much better size. if the small ones were to get gravid, most likely it would cause ALOT of harm and most likely egg binding and possible death or just taking so much out of the growing geckos she doesnt make it.

the hobovator...
take all p[ieces out
put the bottom down place the screen inside , i dont know what the plastic thing is hehe... put the lid on it and the let screw goes in the top and is what helps to control and regulate the temperatures...... as for the thermometer get a second one , i dont even go by what that one says... LLL has inferared temps guns right npow dor 25 bucks i would get that those would be your best bet for accurate temps.
80-82 will give you mostly females
88-90 will give you mostly males
and 84-86 will give you a good mix. dont worry about it getting too cool, unless it will go below 77 or so degrees.
i would also begin setting up your incubator aboput a weeki before getting eggs and monitor it, the ambient room temps can cause fluctuations so try and keep it in a room with a fair;y constant temp... check it several times a day and adjust it to meet the best temps. once its set your ready to rock and roll come egg time.
