Basking Light Question

CluetheCanadian Mar 17, 2004 10:19 AM

How long should the basking light be on for? Is a 75 W tight beam basking light ok? What height should I put the lamp at above his basking area? I have the lights on a timer and am unsure of the settings. I also have a 15W Repti Glo 5.0 UVA/UVB tube light, how long should it be on for? How long should my RES be in the dark?
Many thanks for any replies as I find there are many different answers out there and I can't seem to find consistency.
Thanks

Your basking light needs to be in a location that gives the platform the correct basking temperature (high 80's to 90). You should check it with a thermometer. Give your turtles a photo cycle similar to a natural one. Lights on in the morning, off when you go to bed. I recently shortened the amount of time the lights are on hoping to inhibit some algea, but 10-12 hours of light (both lights) is pretty normal.
