Tanks for one

Menolly Mar 17, 2004 12:41 PM

Hi,
I had an awful clunky glass petco $30 tank (around 40 or 50 gallons) for my 5-inch-long slider. RIP, the damned thing cracked today, and while my poor homeless baby resides in a glorified tupperware I wondered what kind of (relatively cheap! student here!) aquarium was recommended.

I've heard good things about acrylic. It can't come with a stand, since I have one that my dad built for me.

Thanks!

I don't know if acrylic is cheaper than glass, but I have heard that turtles tend to scratch the acrylic. A lot of keepers use Rubbermaid containers or stock tanks...much cheaper than a conventional aquarium if you aren't concerned about appearance.

A nice size rubbermaid is just as functional as a tank, and offers alot more security for the turtle, since they have privacy on the sides...

And they are cheap too

Acrylic is much more expensive than glass unless youre talking about really small aquariums less than 10 gal
