Best foods for Rats and Mice?

Vargas Mar 17, 2004 01:01 PM

What is the best food product to fatten up rats and mice naturally so they are healthy for my reptiles? I would like to buy in bulk from a Feed Store and wanted to know what is the best grain to fatten up rodents the healthy way. I give them everything from scraps, pelleted food and dry dog food but I can barely keep up with their hunger and want to buy food in bulk. I currently have a small number of rats and mice – 40, but plan on getting more and would like to save some bucks in the process.
Thanks Steve

Go with a product like mazuri or harlan teklad #2018. That's what most big breeders use. I use harlan and ol' roy in the red bag from walmart.

I have to agree with Greg. I would recommend either Harlan Teklad, LabDiet or Mazuri feed. I have used both and currently use Mazuri 5M30. My rats absolutely love it and their litters are usually huge!

You can also save money by combining dog food with the lab produced food and mixing it together.

These links should help:

www.teklad.com

www.mazuri.com

www.labdiet.com/indexlabdiethome.htm

I get mine from a local farm & feed supply store.
Hope that helps!
