Did Luna give me cooties???

lele Mar 17, 2004 01:53 PM

OK gang - don't think I am nuts here, but I have had this unexplained area of "bumps" along the side of my hand (b/t pinky finger and wrist bone). They don't itch, they don't do much of anything except spread. They are now invading the palm of my hand. They are small, hard and if looked at with a handlens you can see a perfect circle in the middle of each one (but under the skin, not like a sting) which sort of makes me think fungal. As I was looking at my hand with good light today I noticed they are beginning to pop up in other places on my hand - it's weird. They sort of break up and get dry then a new batch migrates.

OK, now that you all are picturing some strange disease let me assure you it is not bad enough to send me to the doc - yet! it seems to be only affecting my right hand and I began to wonder if I could have gotten something from Luna? Her claws will sometimes break the skin (barely) b/c she holds on so tight but I am good about washing my hands after handling her. Anyone else experience anything like this?? What, if any, are the dermatological things I might get from her?

thanks,
lele

I don't think you have a disease. You probably just have sensitive skin. When our chameleons climb up and down our arms they leave little red spots because thier claws are sharp and the skin responds to that accordingly.

I would think that maybe you had a reaction to the "sharp claws" from your chameleon. Sounds like hives. My little cousin gets hives if he handles the chameleons long enough. It's just from the claws poking through his skin and the skin doesn't seem to like the claws all that much and he gets hives.

I wouldn't worry unless you start to swell up or throw up or something severe. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger...until it comes back twice as bad the next time to kill you effortlessly. That was a saying from somewhere. I forget how that relates to what my point was but...good luck.

Thanks Chris - but it is not hives or a rash. It is really difficult to describe. They are regular skin color and I have had them for a couple months. Hives itch, these do not. I think it is fungal just because of its modus operandi (LOL!) and I am sure that things can be transferred from cham to human...just wondering what those might be.

Sounds weird, but as long as its not hurting you thats good.
If youve had them a couple months maybe try some type of anti-fungal creme? (I dont know if something like athletes foot creme might help)
Just curious though, are you pretty sure they are from luna's claws? If its not have you noticed any on luna? But just my two cents!
Hope it gets better soon!!

No, I have no idea if it is from Luna, it's just that I did a process of elimination: what could be affecting that hand? and I was at a total loss. So I wondered if there is in fact any sort of fungal (or other) skin problem that can be contracted from herps. I think I'll jsut go to the vet - LOL! I mean the Dr.

I'm not a doctor but it kind of sounds like scabies. I've attached a link about scabies that you can check out. It sounds like it's easy to treat. Good luck!

thanks - but it DOES NOT itch. This is why it is odd, therefore I thought fungal. Scabies is serious problem and you KNOW it if you have them! I had a frind many years ago in FL who had them - UGH!!!

Sorry! I didn't mean to offend you. Initially, scabies doesn't itch "It may be up to a month before a newly infested person will notice the itching, especially in people with good hygiene and who bathe regularly."

So when you said your rash wasn't itching I thought it was, perhaps, the early onset of scabies. But like I said I'm not a doctor, I was just taking a stab at what it could be.

meemee-
No, I am sorry. You didn't offend me and my CAPS probably seemed that I was yelling at you - I didn't mean to

These bumps are hard and really not like a rash. I just noticed yesterday that my left hand is getting some - in the same area, weird. So I will go to the doc to see what the heck it is. If I find out that it's cham cooties I'll be sure to post.

Again, no offense taken and no offense implied
