Sudden aggression?

L0wrider Mar 17, 2004 03:54 PM

Hey im new here and i have a question. i got a baby ig a few days ago on saturday. first couple of days i let him get used to his new cage, slowly started to hold him more. hes been great so far. Now all of a sudden hes very aggressive. he whips me and even took a nice bite from my thumb.

ok now what i wanted to know was why do you think of the sudden aggression happened and how do i fix it?

thnx

Something may have spooked him...and aggression is his way of protecting himself..to him you are just trying to eat him...it takes lots of time and patience sometimes up to a year to tame them...good luck...Lyn

Get an ugly wound? My finger wouldnt stop bleeding for hours after my ig bit me. Make sure you wash it off with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol to prevent infection.

not that bad, it bled but not much. i saw the attack coming as he jumped to bite me so i moved mosty out of the way.

He could be starting to feel more confident in his environment, and big enough to stomp out some territory as well. Just keep at it, handle him often, and get used to the idea that sometimes, igs like to be territorial. Tempest can be a real pain in his enclosure, but once he's out he's pretty good about handling.
