Hi guys!! I was reading a lot of these posts and you all seem to be soo helpful, I was just so pleasently suprised to find this site and was hoping that you guys could help me with a couple of things I am wondering about.
I just bought my baby BP two days ago, he is in a tank thats about 2.5' by 1', I read some stuff before buying the BP and think i have all the essentials: heat lamp (75 watts 4" above the top screen on one side), water dish, a couple of hide boxes (one on the hot side, one on cooler), outdoor carpet on the bottom, and a long log (also on the hotter side). Im just about to buy a humidity reader, and the temp in there is about 85-90 on the hot side and about 80 on the cool side. I mist every day to try to keep the humidity up. If there is anything else you guys think i should have, just lemme' know!!
I was a little concerned though, all day he stays curled up under the log on the hot side, (like he squished himself in there), is that normal?? At night he is active though, and i think thats normal. Also, he is due to eat (its been over a week apparently) and to i tryed to feed him dead fuzzys, but he wont eat it! I left it in the tank last night and he still didn't eat!! What can i do, or what is the problem?!
I know this is long, and i could say a lot more, but thanks soooo much for reading!!

Alastair

get the humidity to around 60%. aLso where are you measuring your temps? are you measuring the air temps? or substrate temps? If you are measuring the air temps make the substrate around 90 hot side and 80 cool side. The inactivity during the day is normal. IF your BP is only staying in one hide make better ones. Use the terra cotta flower pot bases and break a hole in the side of them.

In addition, what was he being feed where you got him from? Live, prekilled, frozen/thawed?

also, you need to give him at least a week to settle in without being disturbed.

I have two thermometers, one on each side, they are about 2" above the ground. The temp is good (about 85-90) and the other cooler side is about five degrees less. I was just wondering how to measure the substrate temp. Im using astroturf on the cooler side and calcuim carbonate reptile substrate on the warmer side with the heat lamp. Im also having trouble keeping the humidity up, are there any tricks that have worked for you?? (i already have a large water dish in there)

Thanks for the help!!

I posted some suggestions up top in reply to your recent post.

What is calcium carbonate substrate? Is that the sand like stuff? If so, I've heard nothing but negatives about using this stuff with snakes. Big no-no from what I understand.
