A question about conccida? Kinda long

ta2edskin Mar 17, 2004 04:16 PM

I took a fecal sample from my female and my baby beardie to the vet today. She mixed both samples together wich i dont think is right but I might be wrong. She said that there was coccida and some kind of worms in there so she gave me some albon and ivomec. My question is my female has been sick since I got her and the baby seems just fine he eats good, drinks, poops, and runs around so I am wondering if he even has it.How contegious is coccida between other dragons?I have them in seperate tanks would they still be able to get it? Thanks Steve
P.S. What is a good way to give the albon cause it is pretty hard trying to force her mouth open.Does it seem right that I have to give it everyday for 10 days?

Oops forgot to answer these parts.....

If they are in seperate tanks and you clean your hands between each dragon, then I seriously doubt they both have it.

I have heard of the albon treatment being 10 days at a time.

If you can not get your dragon to open her mouth for the medication, try injecting some super worms or something with the albon and then feeding those to her immediately.

After the mixed sample came back positive did the vet ask for individual samples from each beardie or did they prescribe meds for both? Samples are commonly mixed (or batched) when dealing with many reptiles at once. The drawback to this method is that there is no way to determine who harbors the parasites or pathognes. Once a positive sample comes back all the animals are then treated. I don't like this method due to the fact that healthy animals sometimes receive meds for no reason.

No she didnt ask for a sample from each one.She gave me meds for all 3 of my dragons one of them I didnt even have a sample for.I am giving the albon to 2 of my dragons the female I am sure has it and my male I am giving him some just to make sure cause he shows some of the signs. But the baby I am not going to give any to and I am going to take in 3 samples in 10 days and have them test them seperate to see if any of them have it.
